Volunteers

At Rugby Sport for the Disabled Association (RSDA) we value all our helpers very highly.  They vary from qualified teachers and coaches to willing souls who have no qualifications but are there to be helpful and do a very good job of it.  One thing that they all have in common is that they are all volunteers who give up their time willingly and we couldn't manage without them. Another thing that they have in common is that they are a rare breed and we can never have enough of them.

There are lots of areas where people can help us and we encourage volunteers to look around and perhaps try a few areas before deciding where they would like to help.

Volunteers

often come along initially as helpers for a disabled friend or relative. This is something that we always welcome. They then find that they get drawn by the friendly atmosphere. When they realise how much they are enjoying it they get more involved with general helping.

Swimming

Saturday morning, 9 to 11 o'clock. Help with swimming starts before the water. We have access to changing rooms with specialist equipment where our helpers assist with changing and can wheel our members to the poolside in shower chairs that latch onto a hoist for lowering into the water.
Once in the water helpers can teach people to swim, provide physical support and assistance or provide motivation and encouragement.

Dryside

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Centre Saturday morning, 9am to 12 Noon

In The Sports Hall our helpers can provide all sorts of assistance, from pulling arrows out of targets or coaching sports to giving our members a game of pool.
Help is also needed getting equipment out first thing in the morning and putting it away afterwards.  Many of our disabled members also help with this, but a little extra help never goes amiss.

If you could help....

If you live in Warwickshire, or a neighbouring Midlands county, come along and have a look (or give us a ring on 01788 812910).  You won't be expected to do anything that you don't want to do and you will be given all the tuition and support that you need. As well as sport, we have a variety of social events and a friendly club atmosphere.
You will almost certainly find it very rewarding and you will probably enjoy it.
